On May 6, 1957, the youngest child of Luther and Ophelia Crumbley entered the world. Loucindy Crumbley was their twelfth child and only child to be born in a hospital. She was a welcomed and loved addition to a large loving family. She grew up with many nieces and nephews and required each of them to call her Auntie.
Loucindy began her informal education on her family farm, but began her formal education at Martin Elementary in Brownwood, Georgia. Her secondary education was completed through Terrell County Schools. Loucindy was an excellent student, who loved to read, study and learn.
Tragedy struck early in her life with her father’s death when she was thirteen, but God delivered hope out of that tragedy. The love of her life, Alton Benton, entered. She met the man that would be her husband and life partner at her father’s funeral. She knew she found true love and never looked back. She graduated from high school in 1975. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Albany State College in 1979. She continued her education by earning her Masters in counseling from Tarleton State University.
Loucindy and Alton married January 17,1978 and they traveled the world together, living in Germany and Italy. Their travels landed them in Killeen, Texas where they spent the rest of their days. They become loving and faithful members of Westside Baptist Church. Alton became a Deacon and Loucindy became actively involved in the Deacon's wives committee. She also loved to read the youth accomplishments each third Sunday. It gave her great joy to be involved in praising the youth for their successes.
Loucindy is preceded in death by Luther (father) and Ophelia (mother) Crumbley, her sisters Cora Weeks and Louise Crumbley, brothers Stephen and Issac Crumbley and her daughter Phylicia Benton. She leaves her husband Alton Benton (Killeen, Tx) son Brandon Benton (Dallas, Texas) daughter Dawne Kelly (Marietta, Georgia) and grandson Donovan Benton (Marietta, Georgia) to mourn her memory along with brothers Luther Crumbley (Lois, Albany, Georgia) Benjamin Crumbley (Mary, Senoia, Georgia) Albert Crumbley (Mary, Dawson, Georgia) Joseph Crumbley (Atlanta, Georgia), and sisters Ruth Williams-Usher (Orlando, Florida) Ann Byirt (Rockford, Illinois) Elizabeth Kilgore (Rockford, Illinois) along with a host of close nieces, nephews, and cousins that surrounded her with love all her years. The comfort and companionship offered from her church family and friends to Loucindy and her family following a debilitating stroke in 2016, cannot be compared. God has been Good!
