(Lewis) Simmons
June 21, 1957 – August 1, 2017
Doris E. Lewis-Simmons daughter of the late Jessie Pollard and the late Mary L. Kelsey was born in Dawson, Georgia on June 21, 1957.
Early in life Doris accepted Christ as her personal Savior and began her journey with the Lord at New Beginnings Holiness Church under the leadership of Apostle Lawrence Jones and Apostle Minnie Jones. Doris was a vessel who faith in God never wavered; she was deeply rooted and grounded in the Lord. God's love in all mankind was manifested through her many deeds and acts of Kindness that were extended to her family, friends and strangers. She was a strong but gentle woman with a heart of gold; compassion and full of empathy; patience and filled with love and grace.
Doris received her education in Jacksonville, Florida. Graduating from Stanton High School and she went on to receive her bachelor's Degree in Science from Edward Waters College. Doris was a persistent and hard-working woman. She retired after many years of dedication and service as a teacher at Fort Drum Military based located in Watertown, New York. After retirement, she moved back to Dawson, Georgia where she had built her retirement home
On Tuesday August 1, 2017 Doris left her earthly home and was called to her heavenly home to join her parents, her sister Rose Marie Seay and her brother Eugene Oglesby Jr.
Doris love and fond memories will forever be in the hearts of her surviving sisters: Cheryl Simmons, Sabrina (Kenny) Yates, Frangell Thomas, Aundria Muller and Shannon Pollard. Her surviving brothers: Johnnie B. Lewis, Patrick L. Shields, Jessie (Tamika) Pollard. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and special friends: Brenda McCabe, Mary Elbert and Mary Browner.
