Sister Laura Jean Johnson, affectionately known as Jeanie Bell by her grandchildren, was born February 6, 1952, to the late Reverend Willie D., and Annie Will Slaughter.

Laura always loved the Lord and was brought up as a Baptist in her parents' home. The Reverend and First Lady Slaughter planted for Laura a yearning to immerse herself in biblical study and to choose a lifestyle that seeks the approval of God. Thus, in her mid-twenties, Laura started practicing as a Jehovah's Witness, and she attended the Kingdom Hall in Dawson, Georgia.

She was educated in the Terrell County School System and graduated from Carver High School in the Class of 1970. Laura exhibited school spirit and was the Captain of the Cheerleading Squad of the Mighty Tigers. After graduation, Laura worked for Almark Mills and Oxford Shirt Factory. She attended Albany Technical College early after high school, where she studied to be a Nursing Assistant. Later in life, Laura re-enrolled at Albany Tech and studied Business Management. It should further be noted that our beloved Laura assumed a role as an advocate and rallied on the local and state level for resources to aid those living with mental illnesses.

Laura married Wallace Johnson for the first time on June 5, 1971, and again on March 11, 2000. Together they loved and guided their six children combined. As life unfolded for her, she dedicated her life to taking care of family and other loved ones. Laura had a very loving heart and giving spirit. She took care of both her mother and her mother-in-law in their older ages, her husband, and her brother, Gary Slaughter.

Laura Johnson passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021. She was preceded in death by: her father, Willie D. Slaughter, Sr.; mother, Annie Will Slaughter; four sisters, Susie Mae Slaughter, Eula Mae Turner-White, Willie Pearl Antrich, and Minnie Drew Armstrong; and three brothers, Willie D. Slaughter, Jr., Charlie Slaughter, and Gary Slaughter.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: three daughters: Tonya Johnson of Dawson, GA, Tosha Johnson of Marietta, GA, and Pamela Johnson (Akeem) of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Wallace Johnson, Jr. (Sherita) and Corey Johnson, Sr., of Dawson, GA; a bonus son, Quen Johnson (LaToya) of Dawson, GA; three sisters, Carrie Bell Salter of Albany, GA, Minister Shirley Ann Smalls of Albany, GA, and Schuylar Davis of Dawson, GA; a brother-in-law, Curtis Johnson (Evelyn) of Parrott, GA; two sisters-inlaw, Mary Ann Cody (John) of Dawson, GA, and Elizabeth Johnson of Albany, GA; 15 grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson, Christopher Wright, Chastity Gaddy (Tawame), Neoborta Pickett, Kijah Roundtree, DeMarkel Perry, Chante Wright, Nadajah Perry, DeMario Johnson, Amir Roundtree, Detaevion Johnson, Kennedy Johnson, Corey Johnson, Jr., Kobe Johnson, and Kirsen Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Christian Johnson, Erin Wright, Messiah Gaddy, Zoey Garfield, Brelle Perry, Tawame Gaddy, Jr., and Chanelle Gaddy; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends who loved her dearly.
