Gwendolyn Louise Yarbrough, affectionately known to all as “Gwen” was born to the late Josie Mae Bridges-Jones and Roosevelt “Buck” Hill in Dawson, GA on April 8, 1950. Gwen departed this earthly life as she entered on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 surrounded by family and the people she loved.
Gwen married her longtime friend and lover, William Yarbrough, at an early age. The love between the two of them produced 2 children. Gwen attended the public school system of Terrell County and was a member of Carver High School graduating class of 1969.
Gwen loved to love on people. Her hands were rarely still. She began her work history at Terrell County Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant prior to serving as a dedicated dietician at Dawson Health & Rehabilitation for 32 years until her retirement in 2012. Even after retirement Gwen was well known for her amazing dishes: squash casserole and her famous collards greens just to name a few. This work suited her servant heart. Her life’s work was an example of what the world needs more of, Kindness.
Gwen confessed her love for Christ and joined Beulahland Baptist Church in Dawson, GA later in her adult life. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her foundation for the remainder of her life. She loved the lord, and took every opportunity to share her love for him with the people she met.
She was preceded in death by one brother Terrance Bridges and one sister Delores Vontresa (Von) Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memories: One Son: Derek (Justine) of Phenix City, Alabama, One Daughter: Delissia (Willie) of Albany, GA. A devoted and loving companion of 23 years, Michael Jenkins. Ten sisters: Jeanette, Brenda, Juliette, Debra, Lillie Bell (Julius), Shirley (Willie C), Melanie (Arthur), Jurrette (John), Renay all of Dawson, GA; Deborah (Calvin) of Covington, GA; Seven brothers: Kenneth (Shirley) of Columbus, GA, Harry (Debra) of Albany, GA, Michael (Mary Ann), Calvin Wayne, Gary all of Dawson, GA; Milton (Betty) of Bainbridge, GA and Jeffrey of McDonough, GA. Ten grand-children, seven great grand-children one special Aunt, Annie Pearl West; Three close cousins, Sandra (Diane), Patricia (Trish) and Willie C. Bridges; Three extended family members: Mary Jewel Hightower, Angela Hightower and Brenda Thomas. Three devoted friends: Vicci Lemons, Leola Amos, and Peggy Cooper. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
